Today at Phoenix/Talent Campus Life:

Philosophy Club
I am prepping for the inaugural PHS Philosophy lunch. That’s fairly exciting. Kids have been asking big questions like “Who am I?” and “Why are we here?”. Our regular talk time during club was too short to do justice to these very good topics. If it starts out well, I look forward to having guest discussion leaders come in and discuss their veiwpoint. Philosophy has always been an exciting way to experience Jesus. I truly hope that it transfers to the kids as well.

Quail Point Rotary
Next Wednesday, my Rotary club will be meeting at the Youth Center. Last June they donated $1000 towards start up costs for the youth center. The club has a heart for Phoenix area youth and for a small club, they have really been effective in their approach. I think that they will be happy to see what Campus Life has accomplished with their investment in the community through us.

Remodeling
Dusty Ratliff of Gold Hill Campus Life is helping put in needed doors in the youth center. He should be finishing with putting them in today, then we just have to worry about getting them painted. I would like to send out a big thank you to Dusty for all his hard work and to Norton Lumber who gave us an incredible deal on the doors and finally to the Chaney Family Foundation whose grant made it possible to make these repairs happen.

Ministry Ideals
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what is effective ministry and how Phoenix/ Talent Campus Life can be a valuable asset to the church community, the neighborhood and to the culture at large. Here are a few of the key thoughts that I’ve been working through. These may change or be reprioritized over time but this is good place to start:
• I’ve got to know Jesus- Not the theological concept of Him or rote memorization of His actions as recorded in the Gospels but instead, to know Him as an active participant and primary source for every action in my life. Easily said, harder done. We can’t be ministers of the Gospel unless we ourselves are deeply affected by it first.
• From community to community- I and my volunteers and my co-workers in other the other areas in the valley have to be a community first and then minister to the larger community out of the overflow of God within the smaller community.
• Culture of Discipleship- I want to encourage the community to change the way they think about the people around them. I want us to always be looking for opportunities to be mentored and to become a mentor. This should be a part of the Christian life.

Prayer
If God has put it in your heart to pray for this ministry, here are some of the things that I am praying about:
• The home lives of many of the kids I see. So many of them have very hard situations to go home to. Pray that God would break into these homes and restore loving, nurturing parenthood. We need a culture shift in the way that kids are viewed.
• Volunteers for Phoenix Campus Life. There are a lot of kids and too few adults at club. Please pray that God would send volunteers to invest in the lives of the kids that God is bringing to Campus Life.
• Financial Support For Campus Life. Please pray that God would continue to provide for the cost of the youth center, my salary, club expenses, and the little extra things that I never think about until it’s too late.
• Thank God! He is doing amazing things here through Phoenix Campus Life and I am continually blessed to get to be a part of it. Thank Him for bringing kids. Thank Him for a building to be at. Thank Him for revealing Himself every week at club. Thank Him for all that he is going to do.

Well that’s it for now. We’ll talk to you soon.
God Bless You
