My Story - Julian

Posted on by Martin Corder

I found out I was going to be a dad for the first time when I was eighteen. My name is Julian and this is my story. . .

I felt scared and not at all ready. I’d been involved in gang activity since I was 10-years-old and the news of becoming a dad helped me to see I needed to make some major changes. I'd been with my kids’ mom off and on for 4 years. Our relationship was unhealthy - including abuse and drug use. In the last year, I’ve made a lot of positive changes. I’ve gotten clean, off of drugs, and I'm out of the gang. I met new friends and now have a mentor through Parent Life. They helped me see I could have a brighter future. Through talking with my mentor and going to church I realized I needed God. I gave my life to Him and got baptized on Easter. Since then I’ve been working hard to stay clean and humble.

Life is too short to be negative and spend my time with people that bring me down. I’ve decided not to go back to my old way of living but to keep praying and praising God every day.
