mentoring ‘out’

Posted on by Martin Corder

Three weeks ago his world was very small.

Maclaren Youth Correctional Facility has a large sprawling campus but Jake’s unit is a relatively small place shared with 14 other youth and a team of staff that rotate 3 times a day. After 18 months he was tired of it and ready to get on with life but, in the months leading up to his release there were questions about exactly where ‘out’ would be. The tension got pretty thick at times. It’s incredibly hard to believe what a difference just 3 weeks can make. Today Jake lives with a caring YFC family, attends church each week and gets himself to work each day despite the cold weather. The changes happened quickly but the investment took time. YFC staff & volunteers have been engaged in Jake’s life for nearly 3 years and we will continue to help him grow and succeed.

This is just a glimpse of the work you do. Thank you for providing caring people in the youth correctional system to mentor this young man ‘out' into a life with a bright hopeful future.
