mentor as a friend

Posted on by Martin Corder

One of the mentors was telling us about a poem that her mentee wrote for her.

It didn’t take much convincing and the girl was able to bring the poem up on her phone and she read it aloud to the group. It was written as a recipe for what goes into making a good mentor.

The Ingredients Of A Great Mentorship Like Ours.

Step 1- Preheat the oven of love
With plenty of secrets and hugs

Step 2- Mix in giggles and laughs
That make your sides split in half

Step 3- Bake with the love and care
And all the things you both should share

Step 4- Decorate with the frosting of trust
This is really a must

Step 5- Enjoy the cake do not eat it fast
Just like your mentorship make it last. smile

Just a few weeks previous this same girl shared her testimony with the group - we all had an understanding of the struggle and difficult journey she has been through. So when she finished reading her poem every eye was watered by the sentiment that was expressed by this girls heart about her mentor. Amid all the difficulties in this girl’s life, she has had her mentor as a friend - to offer encouragement, prayer, and mostly...to just be present with her. To be present with her as she is in process in her life’s journey.

I wish I could duplicate every mentoring relationship to have what these two share. At the YFC Mentor program, the love of Jesus is abounding and changing lives.
