down, not out

Sitting at the youth center talking to the teens and in walks James.

I ran into him about a year ago and he said, “I’m really struggling.” Drugs and alcohol, he said, are his thing and he didn’t want to talk to me about it. It was great to see him walk thru the door. As we talked, he told me he had been kicked out of his home. He also dropped out of school because he thought he had it all together. I could see his emotions welling up inside as he told me, “I feel like I let God down and now I don’t know what to do about it.”  We talked it thru and came up with a solid plan for the future to work on.

Sometimes we want to give up on that kid that strays and struggles, but what they really need is someone who can be there for them. God drew James back to the Phoenix-Talent Youth Center for a reason. Jesus said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” [Hebrews 13:5] This gives James the hope he needs to move forward.
